Ankara: Trkiye on Saturday marked Jan. 10 Working Journalists' Day with a message of appreciation from the nation's Communications Directorate, including a commemoration of fallen journalists.
According to Anadolu Agency, the directorate extended congratulations to all members of the press who work to deliver accurate, impartial, and reliable information. The message, shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, paid tribute to journalists who lost their lives while on duty, focusing particularly on those reporting from Gaza.
The statement emphasized that journalists martyred while conveying the truth to the world, especially in Gaza, have become the voice of humanity and conscience. The directorate also highlighted the broader significance of the day, reiterating the importance of press freedom and the right to access information.
Jan. 10, Working Journalists' Day, marks the 1961 introduction of laws improving journalists' rights in Trkiye, including job security and fair wages. The day celebrates their vital role in informing the public and highlights ongoing struggles for press freedom.
