Ashgabat: Trkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has extended an offer to host peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. In a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdogan expressed his nation's readiness to facilitate negotiations, emphasizing that Ankara is closely following the developments in the peace efforts. The discussion took place during the International Peace and Trust Forum in Turkmenistan's capital. Erdogan highlighted the significance of achieving a "just and lasting peace," suggesting that progress could be made in areas beneficial to both parties involved in the conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan's proposal comes at a critical juncture as tensions between Moscow and Kyiv continue. His conversation with Putin included discussions on improving bilateral ties and exploring comprehensive peace solutions. Erdogan underscored the importance of practical benefits that could lead to advancements in the peace process.

In other developments, the European Union has made a significant decision regarding Russian assets. The EU announced an indefinite immobilization of Russian funds within European territories. Kaja Kallas, the EU's foreign policy chief, revealed that this decision ensures that approximately £210 billion ($246 billion) remains within the EU unless Russia compensates Ukraine for the damages incurred due to the conflict. This measure, supported by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, is intended to send a strong message to Russia about the increasing costs of the ongoing war.

Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, Thailand has dissolved its parliament in preparation for snap elections. King Maha Vajiralongkorn signed a royal decree following Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's request, setting the stage for fresh elections within the next 45 to 60 days. This move is part of Thailand's ongoing political dynamics, with the current parliament having been established after the general elections in May 2023.
