Ankara: Marking the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, Trkiye reaffirmed its commitment to combat Islamophobia. The Foreign Ministry released a statement on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, emphasizing Trkiye's dedication to supporting initiatives that address hatred against Islam.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement from Trkiye's Foreign Ministry highlighted the threat Islamophobia poses not only to Muslims but also to international peace and social harmony. It honored the 51 victims who lost their lives in the Christchurch shooting attack, stressing the importance of global efforts to counter hatred against Islam.

The attack occurred on March 15, 2019, when Brenton Tarrant, an Australian white supremacist, targeted the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, killing 51 people and injuring 40 others. Tarrant received a life sentence in 2020 without the possibility of parole, marking the first such ruling in New Zealand's history.
