Trkiye Poised to Attract Long-Term Investment Funds

Istanbul: Trkiye may soon embark on a decade-long journey of attracting long-term investment funds, as stated by Baris Oney, founder and managing partner at Globalturk Capital. Oney shared these insights with Anadolu, highlighting the potential influx of foreign direct investments in the nation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Oney revealed that representatives from private equity and venture capital funds are set to attend the 2025 Outlook on Private Capital in Trkiye and Environs conference at the London Stock Exchange. This marks a significant step towards drawing investments that typically remain in the country for five to seven years, known as 'patient funds'. These funds are valued for their resilience against market volatility and daily fluctuations, contributing not just financially but also strategically to the companies they invest in.

Oney acknowledged some challenges in recent years in attracting such funds but noted a renewed interest due to economic policies implemented in Trkiye. He pointed out that some funds, which had previously been inactive in the country, returned in late 2024. However, he also emphasized the importance of addressing ongoing issues related to exchange rates and inflation to maintain investor interest.

He further stated that long-term fund investors are closely monitoring Trkiye's medium- and long-term policies, seeking rationality and confidence in its economic management. Oney expressed optimism that such investments would start flowing in the latter half of the year, provided the country adheres to rational economic policies.

The predictability of the Turkish economy is influenced by numerous macroeconomic indicators, Oney said, adding that global policy shifts, particularly in the US, have complicated forecasts. Despite this unpredictability, the Turkish private sector has a history of navigating turbulent times, growing its companies successfully.

Oney encouraged investors to place their trust in Turkish companies, particularly those in technology, industry exports, green transformation, and high-demand fields like health and manufacturing. He assured that the Turkish private sector is equipped with experienced individuals who excel in managing in uncertain times.
