Ankara: Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced that Trkiye is committed to supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at establishing a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine. Yilmaz made the statement on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, emphasizing Trkiye's backing of peaceful resolutions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yilmaz participated in a virtual meeting on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the "coalition of the willing" group. This meeting followed earlier sessions held in August. During the session, participants shared updates and assessments of recent talks between US and Russian presidents in Alaska, as well as discussions in Washington involving President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and leaders from European nations, the EU, and NATO.

Yilmaz highlighted the potential for direct talks between involved parties, indicating that such discussions could represent "a new phase" for diplomacy. The peace initiative, spearheaded by the UK and France, includes the deployment of peacekeeping forces from European and NATO countries to a post-war Ukraine.

On Monday, Trump stated that the leaders explored security guarantees for Ukraine and initiated preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, followed by a potential trilateral summit. The discussions in Washington came after a Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, which aimed to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
