Istanbul: A program dedicated to exploring the contribution of Turkish television series to Trkiye's global brand kicked off in Istanbul, gathering high-ranking officials and industry representatives. The event, titled "The Global Narrative of the Trkiye Brand: Turkish TV Series," was organized by Trkiye's Communications Directorate.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye's Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, highlighted that Turkish productions reach over 1 billion viewers across more than 170 countries. Trkiye is now among the top three global exporters of TV series. Duran noted that the country's TV series exports have surged from approximately $10 million in the early 2000s to over $1 billion today.
Duran emphasized that when Turkish series reach audiences in cities like Damascus, Rabat, Belgrade, Santiago, or Johannesburg, Trkiye transcends its perception as a distant country. He explained that the international success of Turkish series is not about cultural dominance but showcases Trkiye's ability to craft its own narratives and share them worldwide. "Just as humanity's fate cannot be left to the decisions of a few centers, humanity's story cannot be left to the cameras of a few centers," he remarked.
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that Turkish series have evolved into a strategic asset, enhancing interest in Trkiye's language, culture, gastronomy, and destinations. Ersoy mentioned that viewers often research filming locations and seek to experience the places depicted on screen.
Ersoy announced a new phase in the ministry's support policies for the TV series industry, removing the requirement for productions to have aired for one season. The revised system allows for episode-by-episode support assessment and permits multiple projects from the same company to receive backing. Productions broadcasted in at least 10 countries across three continents will be evaluated based on export performance, television ratings, digital viewership, and their contribution to Trkiye's promotion and priority tourism markets.
Ersoy further stated that eight promotional productions launched since June 2025 have reached 30 billion impressions and 5.5 billion views. The government aims to merge Trkiye's status as a top tourism destination with the expansive reach of its television industry.
