Ankara: Trkiye has emerged as a pivotal nation for peace diplomacy, global aid, support, and mediation, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Monday. Erdogan highlighted Trkiye's influential role in international diplomacy, emphasizing recent dialogues with global leaders aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed the Ukraine issue with former US President Donald Trump. These discussions focused on potential steps to halt the ongoing violence. Erdogan expressed support for Trump's approach to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, noting Trkiye's growing reputation as a sought-after mediator in global peace efforts.
Erdogan remarked on the increasing global tensions and conflicts, suggesting that humanity is at a critical juncture. He stressed that the post-World War II global order is nearing its end, with uncertainty looming over what will replace it. Trkiye, he said, is effectively navigating this chaotic climate, and its crisis management capabilities are being increasingly recognized.
Erdogan also highlighted his recent phone diplomacy with French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He mentioned Trkiye's previous efforts in March 2022 to resolve the Russia-Ukraine crisis, which were thwarted by external interventions. Nevertheless, he expressed hope for the upcoming Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Istanbul, where Trkiye is ready to contribute as a trusted mediator.
The Turkish president also welcomed the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stressing the importance of avoiding further provocations. He reaffirmed Trkiye's support for Pakistan and its commitment to facilitating a peaceful resolution of disputes, including the water conflict. Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's dedication to peace, diplomacy, and cooperation in international relations.
Regarding his recent visit to Italy, Erdogan described the Trkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit as productive, with 10 cooperation agreements and a joint declaration signed. He highlighted the goal to increase bilateral trade to $40 billion and mentioned his meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella.
Erdogan further discussed his visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, reaffirming Trkiye's unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriots. He also mentioned Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's recent visit to Trkiye, which included the 4th meeting of the Trkiye-Iraq High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the signing of 11 agreements.
In response to the PKK's announcement of its dissolution and disarmament, Erdogan described it as a significant step for Trkiye's security and regional peace. The dissolution includes all PKK branches, particularly in northern Iraq, Syria, and Europe. The PKK has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths during its 40-year campaign against Trkiye.
