Ankara: Trkiye plans to expand a layered air defense system across the entire country by investing in its defense system 'Steel Dome,' according to National Defense Ministry sources Thursday.
According to Anadolu Agency, the expansion will primarily focus on enhancing the nation's air defense capabilities. The investment will include upgrades in various missile systems, such as hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missiles. Additionally, the plan encompasses advancements in aircraft, warships, tanks, and unmanned systems across land, sea, and air. The initiative also includes developing next-generation aircraft carriers and frigates.
The National Defense Ministry sources emphasized that Trkiye has exceeded NATO's 2% defense spending target. With the second-largest army in the alliance, Trkiye ranks among the top five contributors to NATO missions and operations. The country has met all assigned capability targets and continues to invest in defense industry development and research.
