Trkiye to Receive $9.3B Investment for Solar Cell, Petrochemical, Defense Production

Ankara: Trkiye will receive a $9.3 billion investment from large-scale projects in solar cell, petrochemical, vehicle, and defense solutions production, among others, as part of the country's HIT-30 (High Tech) investment program. Mehmet Fatih Kacir, minister of industry and technology, announced that these investments are expected to create more than 20,000 jobs and contribute $12 billion annually to Trkiye's current account balance.

According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish firms Alfa Solar, Astroenergy, CW Solar Cell, Elin, and Schmid Pekintas are set to invest $390 million, $520 million, $387 million, and $683 million, respectively, for integrated solar cell production facilities across the nation. In the defense sector, Turkish firm Aselsan will allocate $616 million to produce photon detectors, nanotechnology, and air and missile defense systems radars in Ankara.

Chemical companies CCE Metal and Kimya Ticaret will invest $168 million in Bilecik to manufacture special alloyed aluminum. Meanwhile, Chinese automaker Chery plans to invest $1 billion in a new-generation vehicle production and supply industry facility in Samsun. Additionally, Turkish miner Eti Bakir will invest $498 million in Samsun to produce cathode copper, cobalt metal, zinc metal, and pellet iron.

In Istanbul and Ankara, defense firm Havelsan will spend $143 million to produce command and control, simulation, and autonomous and platform systems. In Balikesir, Turkish textile mill firm Karesi Polyester and Petrochemistry will invest $1.4 billion to produce purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

The Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) will invest $818 million to produce cylindrical gunpowder and other ammunition in Ankara and Kirikkale. Proturk Ilac, a pharmaceutical firm, will establish a plasma fractionation facility with $448 million in Ankara, while Roketsan will invest $407 million for defense systems production in the capital and Kirikkale.

Teknik Aluminum Sanayi plans to invest $480 million in Edirne to produce aluminum using direct cooled slab casting and hot rolling methods. Vehicle maker Tofas will launch a new generation vehicle production facility with a $468 million investment in Bursa. Lastly, Turkish defense firm Tomtas will invest $292 million in Kayseri to produce training and light land attack aircraft and ready-to-assemble parts.
