Ankara: Trkiye will "swiftly" advance its national defense projects and strengthen "win-win" defense cooperation with its European allies, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated in his address to the nation on Monday following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara. Erdogan emphasized the country's commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities while fostering collaborative relationships with European allies.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted the inauguration of the BMC Ankara Tank and Next-Generation Armored Vehicle Production Facility, which ranks among Europe's top three and the world's top five facilities of its kind. The president expressed the aim to deliver 250 ALTAY tanks to the Turkish Armed Forces within six years, acknowledging the efforts of BMC, the Defense Industries Secretariat, and other partners involved in the project.
Erdogan also mentioned important recent visits by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Ankara, which focused on discussing bilateral agenda items, including investment, trade, and defense. A significant outcome of these discussions was the agreement on the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
In the tourism sector, Erdogan reported a 1.6% increase in visitors during the first nine months of 2025, with nearly 50 million people visiting Trkiye. The country earned $50 billion in tourism revenue during this period, marking a 5.7% increase from the previous year and setting a three-quarter record. Erdogan expressed optimism about achieving a year-end target of $64 billion in tourism revenue.
Erdogan addressed the progress of defense projects, such as the homegrown fighter jet KAAN, which is set to join the Turkish Air Force's inventory as planned. He noted Spain's recent approval to purchase 45 HURJETs, underscoring Trkiye's ambition in the defense industry despite challenges.
Finally, Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's commitment to eradicating terrorism within its borders and neighboring regions, highlighting the state's ongoing efforts in combating terror.
