Trkiye: Trkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran has strongly criticized Israel's recent decision to recognize the Somaliland region as an independent state, labeling the move as 'a clear violation of international law.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Duran expressed his concerns on the US social media platform X. He stated that the decision represents 'interference in Somalia's internal affairs,' emphasizing that it directly challenges the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Duran warned that this action could potentially destabilize the already fragile balance in the region.

Duran further criticized the Israeli government's decision, describing it as 'one of the irresponsible acts' by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, which he accused of having a history of 'genocide and occupation.' He argued that this move undermines the ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

He called for a unified response from the international community against such actions, warning that they pose risks of escalating tensions and security threats in the Horn of Africa. Duran also affirmed Trkiye's steadfast support for Somalia.

'Trkiye will continue to strongly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our fraternal country Somalia,' he stated.

Earlier on Friday, Israel officially recognized Somaliland, a region that declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but lacks formal international recognition. Although Somaliland operates independently in terms of administration, politics, and security, it remains unrecognized as a sovereign state, and the Somali government views any engagement with Somaliland as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial unity.
