Ankara: Trkiye's Communications Directorate has unveiled a publication titled "Murdering the Truth - Israel's Campaign Against Journalism," which explores the incidents surrounding Israel's actions towards journalists in Gaza. The book provides a comprehensive account of the humanitarian and historical aspects of these events.
According to Anadolu Agency, the book, available in Turkish, English, and Arabic, examines the systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza, with a particular focus on the period following October 2023. It addresses these actions within the context of historical documentation and the duty to bear witness. The book includes a foreword by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and outlines the targeting of journalists, the destruction of communication infrastructure, and efforts to suppress truthful reporting, all backed by detailed documentation and testimonies.
The publication highlights incidents such as the bombing of journalists' homes and the targeting of their families. It also chronicles the lives of 283 journalists, including 37 women, who were killed while performing their duties, despite being equipped with bulletproof vests and cameras.
In his foreword, President Erdogan notes that throughout history, conflicts and wars have been recorded and conveyed through the work of journalists. He emphasizes the importance of documenting history and the role of journalists in ensuring accurate understanding and transmission of events. Erdogan underscores the responsibility of states to ensure the safety of journalists, particularly in conflict zones, stating that when states fail in this duty, it becomes difficult for the truth to be known.
Erdogan further comments on the international response to the situation in Gaza since October 2023, asserting that Israel's actions aim not only at physical destruction but also at silencing truthful narratives. He criticizes Israel for its disregard for war norms and humanitarian law, highlighting the targeting of journalists' homes and families in Gaza. Erdogan commends the courage of journalists in the face of danger and vows to continue efforts to disseminate the truths they sought to reveal.
