Gaziantep: Trkiye's Gaziantep Menengic Coffee, a traditional beverage crafted from roasted terebinth fruits, has secured a geographical indication from the European Union, marking the country's 29th product to achieve this recognition, officials announced Monday. According to Anadolu Agency, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli stated, "Menengic Coffee, beloved for its unique aroma and flavor, has now been registered in Europe, beyond our borders. We will continue to increase the number of geographically indicated products and promote them internationally." This milestone highlights the ongoing efforts to elevate Trkiye's traditional products on the international stage. Rifat Hisarciklioglu, vice president of Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the dedication to securing EU status for an additional 66 products and six traditional product names. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the recognition and protection of Trkiye' s rich culinary heritage. Gaziantep Menengic Coffee is distinguished by its rich, nutty flavor and creamy texture. As it is naturally caffeine-free, it appeals to those seeking a milder coffee experience. The recognition by the EU underscores the coffee's authenticity and regional importance, aligning with the EU's geographical indication system that safeguards regional specialties. This achievement places Gaziantep Menengic Coffee alongside other esteemed Turkish products like Gaziantep Baklava and Malatya Apricots, further solidifying Trkiye's position in the global market for traditional and authentic products.
