Dallas: US President Donald Trump declared late Wednesday that the United States will now refer to the Strait of Hormuz as the 'Trump Strait,' asserting that the US is 'winning' its conflict with Iran. Speaking at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump expressed confidence in the US's strategic position in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump stated, "Oil (prices) will be going down as soon as we win the war with Iran, which is taking place right now. We'll win it." He emphasized that the US controls the Strait of Hormuz and suggested renaming it after himself, announcing, "I think we should call the Hormuz Strait, we should call it the Trump Strait. I should get something out of it. The Trump Strait."
Trump continued, "It's going to be called -- ladies and gentlemen, I'll have an announcement -- we'll call it the Trump Strait, and I'm sure the Iranian leadership will be thrilled with that." He also commented on the state of Iran, claiming that it is 'falling apart' and is no longer 'the bully of the Middle East.'
Furthermore, Trump issued a warning regarding potential US military action against Iran's Pickaxe Mountain, citing alleged movements at the site. "We know exactly what's going on . I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard. We have no choice, right?" Trump remarked, stressing the urgency of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
These statements come amid escalating tensions between Iran and the US concerning the Strait of Hormuz, despite the June signing of a memorandum aimed at reopening the strategic waterway as part of a broader peace initiative.
