Washington:US President Donald Trump announced that he expects his envoys to engage in further negotiations with Iran in the coming days, though he believes Tehran has yet to propose acceptable terms to resolve the ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump stated in an interview with Axios that while Iran is eager to make a deal, the terms currently on the table are not satisfactory. He believes Iran has "overplayed" its hand and insists on a deal different from what might have been agreed upon a year ago. Additionally, Trump mentioned that military strikes against Iran remain a possibility.

The US military is currently facilitating the movement of petroleum shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, with tanker traffic reaching a record volume of over 20 million barrels over the weekend. This marks the highest volume since hostilities began.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi communicated through NBC News that Iran is open to negotiations but remains prepared to respond to any military actions. Recent indirect diplomatic exchanges took place during the UN General Assembly in New York, involving Qatari mediators.

Iran has reportedly proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting nuclear talks on the condition that the US lifts its naval blockade, removes oil sanctions, and reinstates a regional ceasefire. However, Trump rejected this proposal, leaving the seven-month conflict unresolved following initial US and Israeli strikes in February.
