Trump Assures Kim Jong Un’s Stability with ‘Smart President’

Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Wednesday regarding North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's stability, stating that Kim will be 'fine' provided the United States operates under a 'smart president.' Trump emphasized his familiarity with Kim, stating, "I know Kim Jong Un very well," and highlighted the cordial relationship they maintain.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump refrained from confirming whether he has been exchanging letters with Kim but underscored their mutual understanding. He remarked on North Korea's possession of "57 very powerful nuclear weapons," a situation he believes should have been averted. Trump asserted that during his presidency, such developments would not have occurred, adding, "When I was president, I wouldn't have allowed it, but he's got them."

Trump further reiterated his belief in Kim's well-being contingent on the US leadership's competence, stating, "As long as we have a smart president, he's going to be fine. If we have a dumb president, then he's probably not going to be so fine." When questioned about a potential meeting with Kim later in the year, Trump affirmed, "Yeah, I will be."

Regarding the objective of denuclearization in North Korea, Trump chose not to elaborate, instead highlighting his positive relationship with Kim. He expressed discontent over military exercises targeting North Korea, describing them as unnecessary given his rapport with the North Korean leader. Trump also commented on the lack of support from South Korea concerning the Hormuz Strait, criticizing their unwillingness to assist despite relying heavily on the strait for oil imports.
