Washington: US President Donald Trump said Saturday that "he expects to hear very soon" from Iran on Washington's latest peace plan.
According to Anadolu Agency, in a phone call with French TV station LCI, Trump mentioned that the Iranians "still very much want to make a deal." This statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following US and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, which led to Iranian retaliation against Israel and American allies in the Gulf, along with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was brokered on April 8 with the help of Pakistani mediation, though subsequent negotiations in Islamabad did not result in a permanent agreement. Despite this, Trump announced an extension of the truce without specifying a deadline.
In addition, Trump commented on the Victory Day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, expressing his desire to see the ceasefire extended. He claimed that he "made the deal" himself with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
