Trump Consults AI Before Ordering Maduro’s Capture

Caracas:Washington President Donald Trump reportedly sought insights from Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, regarding potential reactions from Venezuelans if the US captured then-President Nicolas Maduro, according to a report by Time magazine.

According to Anadolu Agency, the consultation occurred during a private meeting between Trump and Musk at the Oval Office in December 2025. Trump spent several hours querying Grok about his presidency and legacy, with one question focusing on Venezuelan responses to a possible capture of Maduro.

Grok characterized Maduro as a 'repressive and deeply unpopular dictator,' suggesting that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his removal from power. The following month, Trump ordered the operation that led to Maduro's capture.

On January 3, US forces successfully captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in a military operation in Caracas. They were subsequently flown to the United States, where Maduro was taken to New York to face federal charges related to drug trafficking, charges he denies.

In the aftermath of the capture, some Venezuelans celebrated the event, leading Trump to conclude that Grok's analysis was 'ingenious,' as reported by Time magazine, citing officials familiar with the situation.
