Ankara: US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized Democratic mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George, calling her a "communist" and attacking her policy positions ahead of Washington, DC's mayoral election.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to express his disapproval of George, accusing her of wanting to implement policies such as emptying the prisons, opposing ICE, and defunding the police. Trump further stated that George's approach could lead to what he described as the destruction of the capital.

George recently secured the Democratic nomination for the mayoral race after winning the primary earlier this month. With Washington, DC's strong Democratic leaning, she is poised to succeed outgoing Mayor Muriel Bowser following the upcoming general election in November.

Trump emphasized his commitment to preventing any potential decline in Washington, DC, asserting that he had worked diligently to enhance the city's safety and prestige. He expressed his willingness to meet with George, underscoring his determination to maintain what he described as a "Safe and Prestigious Community."

In his statements, Trump reiterated his resolve to protect the capital from what he perceives as harmful policies, emphasizing his broader vision to "MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN."
