Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday his intent to achieve a definitive resolution to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, which escalated following Israeli airstrikes on Iran last Friday. Trump emphasized his aim for "a real end, not a ceasefire" to the hostilities, advocating for the complete cessation of the conflict or, alternatively, Iran relinquishing its nuclear ambitions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump, speaking with reporters en route from the G7 leaders' summit in Canada, dismissed the notion of a ceasefire and reiterated his desire for Iran's nuclear program to be dismantled well before any US intervention would be necessary. He firmly stated that "they are not going to have a nuclear weapon," underscoring his opposition to Iran's nuclear activities.

Regarding Israel's military actions, Trump remarked on the continued intensity of Israeli strikes on Iran and suggested further developments would emerge in the following days. He also issued a stern warning to Iran against targeting US troops, asserting that any such actions would provoke a severe response from the United States.

When questioned about the possibility of dispatching US representatives such as Steven Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance to negotiate with Iranian officials, Trump remained noncommittal, indicating that his decision would depend on forthcoming developments. He also expressed concern for civilian safety amid calls for an evacuation of Tehran.

Trump declined to disclose whether he had received military planning options from the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman and the US defense secretary, stating, "I can't tell you that." He also noted that while the Gang of Eight, a select group of US congressional leaders, would be briefed on the situation, he deemed it unnecessary at this current stage.

The situation in the region has deteriorated since the initial Israeli airstrikes, which targeted Iranian military and nuclear sites, prompting retaliatory missile attacks from Tehran. Reports indicate that the conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with Iranian missile strikes reported to have killed at least 24 people and injured hundreds, while Iranian authorities claim that Israeli attacks have caused at least 224 deaths and over 1,000 injuries.
