Washington: US President Donald Trump will sign an executive order delaying the July 9 tariff deadline to August 1, the White House announced. This move comes as the administration targets multiple countries with new trade measures.

According to Anadolu Agency, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt informed reporters that the President will extend the deadline, which was initially set to mark the end of a 90-day pause on tariffs that began on April 2, 2025. The reciprocal tariff rates or new rates will be communicated to foreign leaders within the next month unless deals are reached.

Trump further announced that starting August 1, a 25% tariff will be imposed on goods from Japan and South Korea. He warned that these tariffs could increase if these countries retaliate with tariffs on American goods.

Leavitt mentioned that around 12 other countries would receive notifications about the new trade measures, although she did not specify which countries. Trump is expected to disclose these details in the near future. She also noted positive developments with some trading partners and emphasized the administration's focus on securing favorable deals for American citizens and workers.
