Washington: US envoy Steve Witkoff announced that trilateral peace talks involving the US, Russia, and Ukraine have been rescheduled to the following week. Witkoff emphasized a positive outlook on reaching a peace agreement, stating, "That's a war that should end, and we're going to remain positive there," while speaking with CNBC. He described the ongoing negotiations as "purposeful."

According to Anadolu Agency, Witkoff highlighted that the Geneva meetings have seen more progress than the last four years combined, attributing this advancement primarily to the efforts of the Ukrainians. Despite the slower-than-anticipated process, Witkoff noted a potential turning point, as both parties are beginning to show signs of exhaustion, which he described as "the beginning inflection point" toward achieving peace.

The negotiations have been a significant focus for US President Donald Trump, who previously expressed his desire to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict within his first year in office. The talks have been in progress since early 2025. However, a recent phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not result in a ceasefire request or the setting of a new date for the trilateral discussions, as reported by the Kremlin.
