Trump-Erdogan Phone Conversation Largely Overlooked Despite Potential Diplomatic Impact: US Envoy

Washington: US special envoy Steve Witkoff has described the recent phone conversation between President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as "great" and "transformational," noting that it has been largely overlooked by the media. Witkoff made these remarks during an appearance on American journalist Tucker Carlson's online program, emphasizing the potential diplomatic developments that could arise from the discussion.

According to Anadolu Agency, Witkoff highlighted the significance of the conversation, which took place last Sunday, suggesting that it has not received adequate media attention due to other pressing global events involving Israel, Russia, and Ukraine. The discussion between Trump and Erdogan focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and global matters.

Erdogan expressed confidence in enhancing Trkiye-US relations with a solid, results-driven approach. The dialogue was facilitated by the efforts of US Ambassador to Trkiye, Tom Barrack, who Witkoff praised for his role in fostering relations between the two nations. Witkoff expressed optimism about the outcomes of the talks, although he did not provide specific details on the topics discussed.

Witkoff suggested that further developments from the conversation could emerge soon, indicating that the media might report on these in the coming days. Despite the lack of public comments from Trump regarding the conversation, Witkoff remains hopeful about the positive news from Trkiye as a result of the dialogue.
