Dallas: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the United States has ascended to the position of the world's largest oil producer. This significant development comes as a result of an energy agreement involving Venezuela's substantial oil reserves, which have now been incorporated into the U.S. stockpile.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made the announcement during a rally in Dallas, Texas, where he described the agreement with Venezuela as potentially "the biggest deal in the history of our country." The deal concerns Venezuela's estimated 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, a substantial addition to the U.S. energy portfolio. "Now we're the biggest in the world, and that's without Venezuela, which we've just added to our little stockpile," Trump stated.
The White House has provided details of the agreement, which sees North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) granting a 35% equity stake in its corporate parent to the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital at no cost to U.S. taxpayers. Additionally, the U.S. State Department will have the option to purchase 20% of the oil production at cost.
The agreement also includes long-term concessions, with NABEP securing 100-year rights over 17 oil fields. However, there appears to be some discrepancy, as Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez previously mentioned a 25-year duration for the deal.
The financial implications of the pact are substantial, with the White House projecting $200 billion in royalties and taxes over the first 25 years. These funds are intended for Venezuela's reconstruction and social development, marking a significant aspect of the bilateral agreement.
