Istanbul: US President Donald Trump on Monday emphasized the significance of the upcoming Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Trkiye, expressing optimism about their potential outcomes. "Thursday's meeting with Russia and Ukraine is very important," Trump stated during a press conference. He further mentioned his insistence on the meeting taking place, underscoring its importance.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump is hopeful about the outcomes of the talks, suggesting, "I think good things can come out of that meeting." He urged observers not to underestimate the meeting and praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as "a great host." Trump also hinted at the possibility of attending the meeting in Trkiye, saying he might travel if he believes it would be beneficial.

Trump highlighted the severe human cost of the ongoing conflict, describing it as "a whole new form of warfare." He called for an end to the "horrible bloodbath" in Ukraine, noting the high levels of casualties not seen since the Second World War.

The peace talks are scheduled to occur in Istanbul, Trkiye. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated acceptance of Moscow's proposal to resume peace talks after a prolonged pause. Turkish President Erdogan has welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin's support for restarting the process, reaffirming Trkiye's commitment to peace efforts.
