New York:US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump's meeting with Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez during the UN General Assembly was brief yet significant.

According to Anadolu Agency, this marked the first in-person encounter between Trump and Rodriguez since the US administration endorsed her leadership in Venezuela.

Rubio emphasized that the discussion centered on addressing Venezuela's economic crisis, restructuring its debt, and progressing towards a political transition for free and fair elections. He acknowledged the numerous challenges facing Venezuela, highlighting the impacts of economic mismanagement and corruption, and pointed out the potential role of Venezuelans abroad in rebuilding the nation.

The US aims to facilitate both economic stabilization and the establishment of institutions necessary for credible elections, with Rubio noting the importance of preventing future leaders from inheriting an economic and social catastrophe.

Regarding Cuba, Rubio asserted that significant political and economic reforms are necessary for the country's improvement, declaring that the Cuban revolution had failed. He indicated that the US prefers diplomatic solutions over military intervention and expressed readiness to support a Cuban transition, contingent on the authorities' willingness to reform.
