Trump Nominates John Coale for Hostage Affairs Envoy

Washington:US President Donald Trump announced the nomination of John Coale, the current envoy to Belarus, as the new special presidential envoy for hostage affairs.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his confidence in Coale's abilities, citing his successful efforts in Eastern Europe. Coale has been credited with the return of over 65 Americans and allied citizens from Belarus in the past year and has played a role in the release of more than 800 political prisoners in the region.

The president emphasized Coale's dedication to bringing American citizens home, stating that he will work tirelessly in his new role. Trump also acknowledged the contributions of Adam Boehler, the special envoy for hostage response, who has helped bring 196 hostages home. Boehler is set to transition to a new position as a senior advisor, assisting in other matters.

The Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, established in 2015, focuses on coordinating diplomatic efforts to recover US nationals held hostage by non-state actors or wrongfully detained by foreign governments.
