Washington: US President Donald Trump is open to launching military strikes on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility, a source familiar with intelligence matters told ABC News on Wednesday. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that any operation would likely involve several strikes on the underground site, located near the Iranian city of Qom. "There is now a movement to get ready for this," the source said.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Fordow nuclear facility is an underground uranium enrichment site-considered the country's deepest and most fortified nuclear installation, specifically designed to withstand conventional airstrikes. This revelation comes amid heightened tensions in the region.

Israel's National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi indicated on Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 on Tuesday that Israel's attacks on Iran "will not end without damaging the Fordow nuclear facility." While Hanegbi mentioned that Israel is maintaining dialogue with the US, he clarified that Israel is not attempting to persuade Washington to join any operation.

The regional situation has intensified since Friday when Israel launched airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, targeting both military and nuclear facilities. This action prompted Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes, further escalating the conflict. Israeli authorities have reported that at least 24 people have been killed and hundreds injured due to Iranian missile attacks.

Conversely, Iranian media reports state that 585 people have been killed and more than 1,300 wounded in the Israeli assaults, adding to the already volatile situation in the region.
