Trump Predicts Imminent Interest Rate Cuts Amidst Economic Growth

Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Wednesday that interest rates will soon be lowered, stating there was 'not much' doubt in his mind regarding the upcoming changes.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump shared his thoughts with NBC News, emphasizing his belief that interest rates are currently too high. "I just think they're going to be lowered. I mean, they should be lower," he remarked. Trump highlighted the economic achievements during his tenure, noting that the United States has become a wealthy nation once again, despite its debt. He suggested that the country's growth would soon overshadow its existing debt.

Trump also addressed his decision not to select Kevin Warsh, a former Federal Reserve board member, to lead the central bank if his intention was to raise interest rates. On January 30, Trump announced Warsh as his nominee for the next chairman of the Federal Reserve, a move following Trump's persistent criticism of current Fed Chair Jerome Powell. Trump has repeatedly expressed his preference for a Fed chair who supports lower interest rates, contrasting with Powell's previous stance of maintaining steady rates before implementing cuts in three separate meetings last year.
