Kuala lumpur: US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced his expectations to secure a deal with Brazil during a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Trump expressed optimism about the potential agreements, stating that both countries have much to offer each other and voicing confidence in swiftly reaching a beneficial arrangement.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump emphasized the strength of the US-Brazil relationship, describing Brazil as a “big, beautiful country” and highlighting the potential for fruitful partnerships. This meeting marks a significant step towards mending relations that have been strained due to US tariffs and sanctions related to investigations into former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a known Trump ally.
President Lula reiterated the importance of maintaining strong ties with the United States, emphasizing that there should be no reason for conflict between the two nations. The Trump-Lula meeting was preceded by a video call in early October, during which both leaders agreed on the necessity of an in-person discussion.
In addition to the discussions with Brazil, Trump expressed optimism about forthcoming negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. He indicated that both the US and China are eager to reach a deal, with further meetings planned to take place in China and potentially in Washington or Mar-a-Lago.
