Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that it was 'too soon' to initiate direct peace talks with Iran, despite circulating reports suggesting that both nations were close to reaching a framework agreement to resolve their 67-day conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump communicated to the New York Post his reluctance to dispatch representatives to Pakistan for another negotiation round, following claims from Islamabad sources that a tentative deal was imminent. Trump stated, 'I don't think so,' expressing that the logistics were too complex and the situation too challenging.

Earlier, on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump emphasized that any potential agreement relied heavily on Iran's acceptance of previously discussed terms. He highlighted that the conflict, dubbed as the 'Epic Fury,' could conclude if Iran agreed. However, he cautioned that failure to reach an agreement could escalate the conflict, with bombing resuming at 'a much higher level and intensity.'

Trump had earlier expressed openness to traveling to Pakistan for a formal agreement signing, acknowledging the efforts of Pakistan's army chief, Gen. Asim Munir, in mediating the discussions between Washington and Tehran. The conversation with the New York Post concluded abruptly as Trump indicated he had an upcoming meeting with 'the generals.'
