Washington: US President Donald Trump criticized North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis for his opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, accusing Tillis of endorsing a significant tax increase instead of supporting what Trump described as the largest tax cut in American history.

Trump warned that numerous individuals are considering running against Tillis in the primary elections. He plans to meet with potential candidates who he believes will better represent North Carolina and the United States. Trump emphasized the importance of North Carolina not allowing a senator to grandstand for personal publicity, especially with a challenging re-election on the horizon.

In his remarks, Trump criticized the Republican senators, including Tillis, who voted against the bill. He accused the Democratic Party of wanting a weakened military, contrasting it with the Democratic ability to remain unified in their votes. The Senate recently voted 51-49 to move forward with the 1,000-page bill, facing resistance from some Republican lawmakers.

Republicans Rand Paul and Thom Tillis opposed the bill, citing concerns over increased debt limits and federal Medicaid funding impacts. Despite initial opposition, Ron Johnson changed his vote to support the bill, along with other Republican senators who eventually voted in favor.

Trump has urged Congress to finalize the bill by July 4, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to delay proceedings by having the bill read in its entirety, prolonging the debate and amendment process.
