Trump Threatens Canada with Additional Tariffs Amid Trade Dispute

Washington: US President Donald Trump threatened Canada with additional tariffs Tuesday in response to Ottawa's decision to impose duties on American products.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump took to Truth Social to issue a stern warning to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount," Trump wrote.

This latest escalation follows the recent implementation of a 25% US tariff on Canadian goods. This tariff, initially delayed by a month, officially took effect on Tuesday. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a series of retaliatory measures. Canada plans to impose 25% tariffs on CAN$155 billion ($107 billion) worth of American products. These measures will begin with $30 billion immediately, with the remaining $125 billion to follow within 21 days.
