New york: US President Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to prevent Democratic mayoral nominee for New York City Zohran Mamdani from destroying the city.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump took to Truth Social to express his intentions, declaring, "As President of the United States, I'm not going to let this Communist Lunatic destroy New York." He emphasized his control over the situation, stating, "Rest assured, I hold all the levers, and have all the cards." Further, Trump has previously threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City should Mamdani not "do the right thing" as mayor.

In his social media discourse, Trump promised to "save" the city, likening it to his self-proclaimed success with the nation, "just like" he said he did "with the Good Ol' USA!" The tension between the two figures arises from Mamdani's commitment to blocking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests and countering Trump's deportation plans.

During a Florida immigration policy roundtable, Trump warned on Tuesday that authorities would detain Mamdani should he obstruct federal operations. Mamdani responded to Trump's remarks by labeling them "an attack on our democracy" and a signal to New Yorkers who choose not to remain silent. He accused the president of employing "intimidation" tactics.

Mamdani, who emerged victorious over former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in last week's Democratic primary after rank-choice votes were counted, is poised to become New York City's first Muslim mayor, marking a significant milestone in the city's political landscape.
