Trump Vows to Veto Legislation if Democrats Control Congress

Washington:US President Donald Trump has vowed to become "Mr. Veto" and block legislation should Democrats gain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, as detailed in an interview published on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Trump expressed his intent to veto bills if Republicans fail to secure a victory in the elections. He mentioned his potential role as "Mr. Veto" while speaking to the New York Post newspaper, emphasizing his commitment to vetoing legislation while remaining open to eventual deal-making.

Trump also showed confidence in the Republican Party's prospects, dismissing unfavorable public opinion polls as "rigged" and pointing to the turnout at his rallies as evidence of support. He warned that Democratic victories in Congress and a Democratic presidential win in 2028 could lead to detrimental changes, including an expanded Supreme Court, the elimination of the Senate filibuster, and restrictions on Second Amendment rights.

In the interview, Trump addressed potential congressional subpoenas and investigations targeting his family, White House staff, and Elon Musk, stating he would issue pardons without hesitation. He referenced his previous clemency decisions related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, having pardoned approximately 1,500 defendants on his first day back in office in 2025.

Discussing his political future, Trump acknowledged the constraints of the 22nd Amendment's two-term presidential limit, ruling out a 2028 presidential bid despite favorable internal polls. He praised Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a strong presidential ticket, and described Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as fitting the role perfectly.
