Washington: US President Donald Trump on Thursday criticized former Russian president and current deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, cautioning him to "watch his words" following Medvedev's threats of war. Trump directed his remarks towards Medvedev on Truth Social, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation by stating that Medvedev is entering "very dangerous territory."

According to Anadolu Agency, Medvedev had earlier criticized Trump, suggesting that Trump's increasing pressure on the Kremlin over the Ukraine conflict could potentially escalate into a broader war, involving not just Russia and Ukraine but also the US. Medvedev's comments on X included a warning to Trump, indicating that each new ultimatum could lead to conflict, not only with Ukraine but potentially with the US as well.

Medvedev's comments followed Trump's Monday announcement threatening Russia with sanctions and secondary tariffs if the Ukraine war does not conclude in "about 10 or 12 days," a timeline much shorter than previously mentioned. Trump further dismissed the notion of economic cooperation with Russia or India, asserting that the US has minimal business with India due to their high tariffs and that US-Russia business relations are nearly nonexistent.

In a related development, Trump announced a 25% tariff on India, effective from August 1, citing unfair trade practices and India's energy and arms relations with Russia as reasons. Medvedev responded by stating that the US president's reaction validated Russia's standpoint.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, India's main opposition leader Rahul Gandhi commented on Trump's assessment of the Indian economy, agreeing with Trump's view. Gandhi remarked that the Indian economy is struggling and expressed approval of Trump's statement, suggesting that the Indian Prime Minister and Finance Minister are unaware of this reality.
