Washington: US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard said Sunday that President Donald Trump is 'committed to peace' but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy 'has different aims in mind.' Speaking to Fox News, Gabbard evaluated the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy on Feb. 28 at the Oval Office. According to Anadolu Agency, Gabbard emphasized that there is a significant divergence between Trump's peace-centric approach and Zelenskyy's stance, which she described as potentially leading to heightened global tensions. 'President Trump is committed to peace and to freedom,' she told host Shannon Bream. She noted that Zelenskyy's aims differ from Trump's, with the Ukrainian leader seeking an end to the war that he defines as a victory for Ukraine, even if it risks escalating tensions to the level of World War III or a nuclear conflict. Gabbard labeled Zelenskyy's position as a direct challenge to both Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, citing the Ukrainian leader's apparent disinterest in genuine negotiations, which she believes has widened the rift in US-Ukraine relations. She also pointed to a 'laundry list of issues' in Ukraine that contradict democratic and freedom values, aligning with Vance's remarks at the Munich Security Conference in February. During a heated exchange at the White House on Friday, Trump criticized Zelenskyy's attitude, while the Ukrainian leader reiterated his expectation of continued support from the US.
