Washington:US President Donald Trump purchased between $1 million and $5 million in SpaceX debt two days prior to signing a new space policy, as revealed in his latest financial disclosure report.
According to Anadolu Agency, the report was highlighted by The Washington Post on Thursday. The space policy introduced in August 2026 is designed to bolster the US space transportation sector, targeting over 1,000 launches and re-entries annually by 2030.
SpaceX, headed by Trump's ally Elon Musk, issued bonds earlier this year to fund expenditures on artificial intelligence data centers, its Starlink satellite network, and the Starship spacecraft. Despite potential conflict of interest concerns, White House spokesman Davis Ingle asserted that Trump's investment portfolio is managed independently by third-party financial institutions.
Ingle stated that neither President Trump nor his family has any influence over the portfolio's investments, including the SpaceX purchase. However, he did not specify whether the decision was made by an algorithm or an independent manager. A financial adviser mentioned in the report noted that buying individual bonds to track an index would be atypical.
On the same day, Trump awarded Musk the National Medal of Science, praising him as "our modern-day Thomas Edison" and acknowledging their friendship.
