Washington: US President Donald Trump's eldest son has publicly condemned Republican Senator Ted Cruz for his criticisms of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding Iran's reconstruction efforts.
According to Anadolu Agency, Donald Trump Jr. expressed his disapproval on the social media platform X, accusing Cruz of being deceitful about the nature of the deal. Trump Jr. argued that Cruz's statements were misleading and not in line with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda. He emphasized that the US was not providing any financial aid to Iran and accused Cruz of using misinformation to undermine President Trump's peace initiatives.
Senator Cruz, representing Texas, shared his concerns in an interview with the conservative outlet, the Daily Wire. He expressed skepticism about the MOU, criticizing the use of substantial funds for Iran's reconstruction, which he described as a risky move given Iran's history and intentions. Cruz highlighted the dangers of financially supporting a government that he believes poses a threat to the US.
The MOU, a 14-point draft revealed by US officials, outlines several significant commitments, including ceasing military activities across all fronts, lifting a naval blockade on Iran within a month, and ensuring the secure passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. It also details an extensive reconstruction and economic development plan for Iran, valued at a minimum of $300 billion, along with oil export waivers and the release of Iran's frozen assets. Furthermore, the agreement includes Iran's pledge not to pursue nuclear weapons, with further negotiation on its enriched uranium stockpile.
