Trump’s Victory Sends US Stocks Soaring, Markets Close Week with Gains.


New York: US stocks closed in the positive territory Friday, while weekly gains were around 4 – 6% following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election. The Dow Jones industrial average posted a gain of 0.59%, or 259.65 points, and finished the day at 43,988.99. It increased 4.61% during the week. The S and P 500 added 22.44 points, or 0.38%, to reach 5,995.54, while its five-day gain was at 4.66%. The Nasdaq also increased 17.32 points, or 0.09%, to end the day at 19,286.78 and gained 5.74% for the week.

According to Anadolu Agency, the VIX volatility index, referred to as the “fear index,” fell 1.71% to 14.94. The US dollar index rose 0.44% to 104.8, while the EUR/USD exchange rate fell 0.8%. Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold lost 0.82% to around $2,683.3 per ounce and silver dropped by 2.32% to $31.29. Oil prices fell around 2.08%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $73.80.
