Turkey Hosts Workshop on Clean Industrial Transition Ahead of UN Climate Summit

Ankara:The Turkish capital hosted the Build Clean Now Türkiye Workshop on Monday, aiming to accelerate the country's clean industrial transition. The event gathered officials, financial leaders, and industrial project developers, organized by the Industrial Transformation Accelerator and the Boston Consulting Group in collaboration with Türkiye's Industry and Technology Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the discussions at the workshop focused on sectors such as steel, cement, fertilizer, and aluminum. The event aimed to advance final investment decisions for clean industry projects, with a summary report of the findings to be published ahead of the UN's COP31 climate summit in November.

Turkish Deputy Industry and Technology Minister Muhammet Kasim Gonullu emphasized the program as a key partnership for the country's broader green transformation, highlighting the importance of decarbonization for maintaining competitiveness, creating new investment opportunities, and enhancing Türkiye's global value chain position.

Faustine Delasalle, head of the Mission Possible Partnership and director of the Industrial Transformation Accelerator, stated that the initiative is working to create market conditions conducive to making deep decarbonization projects financially viable for traditional lenders. She noted the global momentum in this area, with 19 final investment decisions for commercial-scale clean industry projects reached in the first half of the year, double last year's number.

Delasalle also pointed out Türkiye's manufacturing infrastructure within "the new industrial sunbelt" and its strong commercial ties with Europe as significant advantages. She stressed that the main goal in the coming years should be scaling up deep decarbonization projects in heavy industry.
