ANKARA: Turkey's technological advancements in 2024 marked significant strides in defense, space exploration, and economic growth, highlighting the nation's push for self-sufficiency and global competitiveness. Key developments included the commissioning of Turkey's first quantum computer, advancements in indigenous aircraft technology, and successful space missions.
According to Anadolu Agency, Turkey's first quantum computer was introduced in November, a collaborative effort between the defense firm Aselsan and TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara. This development aims to bolster Turkey's position in the quantum computing market. In the defense sector, Turkey's homegrown fighter jet, KAAN, completed its inaugural test flight on February 21, representing a milestone in domestic aviation technology. The Bayraktar TB3 combat drone also made history by becoming the first UAV to take off and land on a ship with a short runway, debuting at the TEKNOFEST technology event in October.
