Istanbul: Trkiye's flag carrier Turkish Airlines is set on integrating Africa with the world by expanding its extensive flight network on the continent.
According to Anadolu Agency, since its inaugural flight to Africa in 1956, Turkish Airlines has established 51 destinations across 39 African countries, marking one of the largest networks in the region. This expansion is part of the airline's ambitious '2033 Strategy' plan, aiming to elevate Africa's prominence in global aviation.
The airline's African journey began nearly 70 years ago in Cairo, Egypt. With its strategy plan and investments, Turkish Airlines seeks to enhance the continent's role in global connectivity. Africa's rich cultural heritage, burgeoning economies, and strategic positioning have made it increasingly significant, with Turkish Airlines acting as a bridge connecting it to Europe and the US.
The airline has actively supported the continent's aviation infrastructure, tourism, and trade through various investments, thereby contributing to economic development in the region. A notable milestone was the launch of flights to Banjul, the Gambian capital, in November 2018. Banjul, a crucial port city, plays a vital role in trade and tourism in the Gambia.
By connecting Banjul to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East via Istanbul, Turkish Airlines has significantly contributed to the Gambia's economic activities and expedited its integration with the global community. The expansion of trade volumes allows the Gambia to forge stronger ties with other African countries and the broader world.
Trkiye's strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Africa are further reinforced by Turkish Airlines' expanding flight network in the region. The flights to Banjul position the Gambia as one of Africa's gateways to the world, offering substantial opportunities for the country's future growth and development.
