Turkish and Iranian Leaders Convene at ECO Summit in Azerbaijan

Khankendi: Trkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Iranian counterpart Mesoud Pazeshkian engaged in a meeting on Friday during the 17th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) held in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.

According to Anadolu Agency, details about the discussions in the closed-door meeting between the two leaders were not made immediately available. The location of the summit carries symbolic significance for Azerbaijan, as Khankendi was formerly the capital of the regime occupying Karabakh.

The ECO, an intergovernmental organization established in 1985 by Trkiye, Pakistan, and Iran, aims to enhance development and encourage trade and investment opportunities among its members. The organization includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus participating as an observer.

In his speech at the summit, President Erdogan emphasized Trkiye’s dedicated efforts to prevent the conflict between Iran and Israel from escalating in the region.
