Ankara: Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat and Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Farzaneh Sadegh convened in Ankara on Monday for the Trkiye-Iran Joint Economic Commission meeting. This meeting focused on enhancing economic ties and exploring opportunities for mutual growth between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions were a continuation of efforts that began last year in Tehran, where both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in various sectors, including trade, customs, agriculture, investments, finance, transportation, and tourism. Minister Bolat highlighted the positive trajectory of their economic relationship, noting a significant increase in Trkiye's exports to Iran by approximately $500 million, alongside Turkish investments in Iran surpassing $2 billion.

Bolat emphasized the importance of regular meetings between the joint committees of Trkiye and Iran, particularly concerning transportation. He announced plans for the modernization of the Kapikoy Border Gate in Van, which borders Iran, with necessary arrangements to be made on the Iranian side. Additionally, he mentioned that the Sarisu transboundary trade center is poised for opening.

Minister Sadegh expressed that the target trade volume between Trkiye and Iran is set at $30 billion. The two countries aim to facilitate the operations of their respective fleets within the next three months. She also highlighted the broader implications of their cooperation in transportation, suggesting it would contribute significantly to the stability and peace of both nations and the surrounding region.
