Ankara: Trkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan engaged in a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to deliberate on the recent two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as regional security matters.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan emphasized Trkiye's active involvement, along with other concerned nations, in facilitating the ceasefire. He stressed the significance of the upcoming discussions between Tehran and Washington, highlighting the need to leverage these talks to achieve enduring peace and stability.

Erdogan conveyed the critical need to thwart any attempts to undermine the peace process and expressed Ankara's willingness to offer comprehensive support in the forthcoming phase. He also extended his condolences to the Iranian people for their recent losses.

The Turkish President reiterated Trkiye's commitment to fostering a climate of common sense and dialogue in the region. The ceasefire, declared by Iran and the US, aims to lay the groundwork for a conclusive agreement to end the ongoing conflict that has resulted in numerous casualties since its onset on February 28.

The initial formal negotiations are anticipated to commence in Islamabad on Saturday.
