Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon in the capital Ankara on Monday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of collaboration.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan and Fajon met on the occasion of the 9th meeting of the Trkiye-Slovenia Joint Economic Commission (JEC). The discussions emphasized developments in bilateral ties within the framework of the 2024-2026 Strategic Partnership Action Plan. Trkiye reiterated its commitment to enhancing trade and economic cooperation with Slovenia, highlighting the untapped potential in defense industry collaboration.
The meeting also addressed regional challenges, particularly in the Balkans, with both parties agreeing that dialogue is essential for resolving issues. Fajon also took part in cultural diplomacy by inaugurating the exhibition 'The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean' at Middle East Technical University in Ankara. The exhibit features women scientists and researchers from 22 countries, including 19 Mediterranean nations.
During her two-day visit, Fajon is scheduled to meet Trade Minister Omer Bolat and attend the 9th Trkiye-Slovenia Joint Economic Commission session with Youth and Sports Minister Osman Askin Bak. This visit underscores the long-standing relationship between Trkiye and Slovenia, which began with Trkiye's recognition of Slovenia's independence in 1992 and the subsequent establishment of embassies in 1993 and 1996.
The strategic partnership declaration made in 2011 has further enhanced ties, leading to expanded cooperation across multiple sectors.
