Damascus: Trkiye's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun and Syria's new Information Minister Mohamed al-Omar engaged in a significant dialogue on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing media and communications cooperation and addressing disinformation challenges.
According to Anadolu Agency, Altun highlighted the importance of accurately conveying the perspectives of the Syrian people to the international community during the phone conversation with al-Omar. He stressed the need for a firm stance against disinformation, propaganda, and systematic falsehoods, offering Trkiye's support in these efforts.
Altun proposed sending a technical team to Syria to further joint communication initiatives, indicating a commitment to solidifying cooperation. Al-Omar expressed a strong desire to collaborate with Trkiye, aiming to model Syria's communication strategies on Trkiye's successes. He extended gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish populace for their support during Syria's recent turbulent period.
In a gesture to strengthen collaboration, al-Omar invited Altun to visit Syria. This discussion occurs amidst significant political changes in Syria, as a new administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa takes the helm following the ouster of Bashar Assad last month.
Damascus recently fell to anti-regime forces in a rapid offensive by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, concluding Assad's nearly 25-year rule and the Assad family's long-standing control over the nation.
