Turkish Central Government Debt Stock Reaches $294.3 Billion in July

Ankara: The Turkish central government's gross debt stock reached 12.045 trillion Turkish liras, equivalent to $294.28 billion, by the end of July, based on official figures released on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, data from the Treasury and Finance Ministry indicated that this figure represents a 48.6% increase compared to the end of July in the previous year. The gross debt stock comprises the outstanding obligations of public sector institutions, the Central Bank, private companies, and households.

The breakdown of the debt reveals that 45.8% is in Trkiye's local currency, with the remaining portion in foreign currency. Of the total debt, 6.88 trillion Turkish liras ($168.1 billion) was domestic, while 5.16 trillion liras ($126 billion) was external. The exchange rate of the US dollar to the Turkish lira was approximately 40.24 at the end of July.
