Boston: Trkiye's Consul General in Boston Halime Digdem Buner stated that the consulate will continue monitoring the legal proceedings involving Tufts University doctoral student Rumeysa Ozturk, who was recently released after a six-week detention over her support for Palestine.

According to Anadolu Agency, Buner expressed that she has been closely following Ozturk's case from the outset. Ozturk attended her most recent hearing online from the detention center, accompanied by her legal representatives and officials from Trkiye's Consulate General in Houston. After her release, Ozturk reached out to officials from both Trkiye's Consulate General in Houston and Trkiye's Ambassador to Washington Sedat Onal.

The consul general mentioned her intention to personally welcome Ozturk in Boston, emphasizing, "We will continue to monitor these two cases."

Ozturk's detention stemmed from her arrest on March 25 by six masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The arrest was linked to her co-authorship of an op-ed about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Tufts University's student newspaper last year. A US federal judge, Denise Casper, intervened to halt Ozturk's deportation, and Judge William Sessions of the US District Court in Vermont subsequently ordered her release on bail.

Tufts University had advocated for Ozturk's release, with University President Sunil Kumar stating in a court submission that her detention had 'paralyzed the school's international community' and raised significant concerns about campus safety.
